Dynamics and correlations at a quantum phase transition beyond Kibble-Zurek

چکیده

Kibble-Zurek theory (KZ) stands out as the most robust of defect generation in dynamics phase transitions. KZ utilizes structure equilibrium states away from transition point to estimate excitations due using adiabatic and impulse approximations. Here we show, actual nonequilibrium lead a qualitatively different scenario KZ, far correlations between defects (rather than their densities) are concerned. For quantum Ising chain, this gives rise Gaussian spatial decay domain wall (kinks) correlations, while would predict an exponential fall. We propose simple but general framework on top based ``quantum coarsening'' local correlators supposed regime. outline how our picture extends generic interacting situations.

Kibble-Zurek mechanism in simulated annealing and quantum annealing

We study errors of quantum annealing and simulated annealing to highlight better performance of quantum annealing over simulated annealing. Quantum annealing and simulated annealing perform optimization through a quantum adiabatic evolution and a quasi-static evolution respectively. In both methods, dynamics across a phase transition plays a crucial role. The Kibble-Zurek mechanism is known as ...

Defect Formation beyond Kibble-Zurek Mechanism and Holography

The MIT Faculty has made this article openly available. Please share how this access benefits you. Your story matters. We study the dynamic after a smooth quench across a continuous transition from the disordered phase to the ordered phase. Based on scaling ideas, linear response, and the spectrum of unstable modes, we develop a theoretical framework, valid for any second-order phase transition...

Experimental Trapped-ion Quantum Simulation of the Kibble-Zurek dynamics in momentum space

The Kibble-Zurek mechanism is the paradigm to account for the nonadiabatic dynamics of a system across a continuous phase transition. Its study in the quantum regime is hindered by the requisite of ground state cooling. We report the experimental quantum simulation of critical dynamics in the transverse-field Ising model by a set of Landau-Zener crossings in pseudo-momentum space, that can be p...

Kibble-Zurek mechanism in colloidal monolayers.

The Kibble-Zurek mechanism describes the evolution of topological defect structures like domain walls, strings, and monopoles when a system is driven through a second-order phase transition. The model is used on very different scales like the Higgs field in the early universe or quantum fluids in condensed matter systems. A defect structure naturally arises during cooling if separated regions a...

Kibble-Zurek dynamics in an array of coupled binary Bose con- densates

Universal dynamics of spontaneous symmetry breaking is central to understanding the universal behavior of spontaneous defect formation in various system from the early universe, condensed-matter systems to ultracold atomic systems. We explore the universal real-time dynamics in an array of coupled binary atomic Bose-Einstein condensates in optical lattices, which undergo a spontaneous symmetry ...
